From fuel logs to a footprint
Sites and inventories
Create a site for each mine, then an inventory for each reporting year. An inventory holds activity data: fuels, explosives, refrigerant leaks, electricity, land cleared and production.
Factors
- Fuel factors are computed from IPCC 2006 defaults (net calorific value, carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide) with AR5 GWP100. Use the haul-truck line for mobile diesel: off-road equipment has higher methane and nitrous-oxide factors than generators.
- Ghana's grid factor for each year comes from GhaMEM v1.1. For other countries, set a grid factor on the site.
- Independent power producers: enter the supplier's factor; if you leave it blank, the GhaMEM estimate for the Genser gas turbines is used and flagged.
Land cleared
Enter hectares cleared in the year by forest type. Emissions use NID1 carbon stocks for living biomass, dead wood and litter, emitted in the year of clearance, with a low–high range. They are reported as land-use change, separately from Scope 1.
Results
Each result shows every line with its quantity, factor and source, Scope 1 by group, Scope 2 location- and market-based, land-use change, and carbon per ounce against the national benchmark. Mark an inventory final when it has been checked.
